“A Man / has gun / hey man / have fun.” I can remember rumors shooting through my grade school that “Hey Man Nice Shot” was about Kurt Cobain, but turns out it’s actually about Pennsylvania state treasurer R. Budd Dwyer, who infamously put a gun in his mouth during a press conference he called after being found guilty of racketeering, bribery, fraud and conspiracy. In the early 90s, Richard Patrick was a touring member of Nine Inch Nails, and was encouraged by Trent Reznor to go make his own record to kill time during the recording of The Downward Spiral. Patrick recorded Short Bus between 1994 and 1995 with fellow NIN alum Brian Liesegang sharing guitar and drum machine duties, and it was a huge success thanks to “Hey Man Nice Shot” as well as “Dose” and “Under.” This 2018 pressing features remastered sound and a printed insert.
